Due to his limitations in short-area athleticism and long speed, his ability to cover man-to-man may be limited to tight ends. Nevertheless, he possesses impressive instincts in short zone and is eager to make impactful hits when close to the box. It wouldn't be surprising to see Mapu add weight and transition into a backup weakside linebacker role in a 4-3 defensive scheme in the professional level.
