Derek received a PhD in physics from the University of Sydney. The channels name comes from the the latin word "veritas" which means truth and the common "ium" suffix of many elements, hence, "an element of truth". The logo is meant to resemble an element from the periodic table, and the number 42 is a reference to hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
Veritasium tackles easy to advanced scientific topics, and how they might apply to everyday life. He also attempts to cover scientific misconceptions.
